Sunset over the Beaverhead Spring Creek Ranch

Shooting in Montana for Spring Creek is about to resume during the first part of June. I'll be in Ennis for a couple of days shooting with Craig Matthews and Yvon Chouinard at O'Dell Creek and then heading down to the Dillon area. One place in particular I'm extremely excited to film at is the Beaverhead Spring Creek Ranch just outside of  Twin Bridges. Tim Murphy from Hall and Hall is going to show me around the 1700 acre  ranch and it's 4½ miles of the fabled Beaverhead River, five miles of two forks of California Slough and 1½ miles of a developed spring creek.  The center piece of the ranch is the restored spring creek rumoured to have trout too big to land given "the their size and and shelter provided".  Tim is also hoping to bring a "special guest" to fish at the ranch for the film. Fans of "Pirates of the Flats" would be well versed in this angler's literature. More Later T>

BSC Ranch's Spring CreekA Ranch Resident

Scott Cherry one of Abel's five in house artists, sent me this time lapse shot of a Derek DeYoung Signature Series Abel Reel being handpainted in the Caramillo, California facility. Having just returned from spending a week at the Abel factory, I can honestly say the work they do there is incredible. Each one of these reels is a treasure. I know because I have one of these little bad boys for filming! Everything that goes into an Abel reel is precision machined right there in the factory at Abel. NO OFF SHORE... NO OUTSOURCING. 100% Made in America. Big shout out to the Abel team who treated me like family while I was there!
